Shell Safety Days

Zest was appointed to create campaign materials for Shell Safety Days 2007, which was organised by the HSE across the Shell Group. The events focussed employees' attention on the need to ensure safety in the workplace. Collateral was produced across different media to create interest and promote the Safety Day events, including web and email banners, floor hole stickers and banner stands, and templates for communications.

Floor stickers were used around workplaces to highlight different excuses for not sticking to the rules. During the first Safety Day, team leaders used a Leadership guide which contained DVDs, briefing notes and presentations to allow them to effectively engage with their teams, highlight safety issues and encourage dialogue to improve compliance and avoid rule breaking. Barrier repair kits were sent to each team which allowed people to respond to how they could improve compliance or stop breaking rules. Stickers could be personalised and stuck over holes on the poster as a visual commitment to help improve safety in their workplace.

“Zest is an agency that has been creative in enhancing internal communications and have demonstrated a breadth of skills across key projects.”

A second Safety Day was held in October which gave teams an opportunity to measure what progress has been made, and focus on the future. Posters were created to encourage and remind employees to make safety a priority in the workplace.

A series of posters were highlighted areas where people face dilemmas in the workplace. The poster raised contentious issues designed to engage the workforce and get them talking about the safety related issues. A response mechanism was established to allow the workforce to contribute feedback via online forums and through their direct line management system.
